Album cover illustration and package design for the new album from Sid Griffin.

Following on from the recent digital single cover we illustrated Sid asked me if I could help with the cover to his new solo album. I was of course supper happy to do so. What started as just the cover illustration became the full package design and print ready artwork for both the LP and the CD.

While I have produced artwork for a few book and album covers creating the full four colour artwork files for the whole package was at the edge of my comfort zone and I’m very grateful for the help of Jon Krop from the label who checked over my print artwork, spotted a couple of things, and ensured the whole thing came out as it should.

I worked up a handful of ideas and met up with Sid to take some reference photos. We went back and forth on what we liked and what suited the material. Sid had liked the aged look of the digital single I created so we leaned into that through the whole cover artwork to give things a bit of an aged look… which kind of reflected some of the themes of the album.

I was really pleased with how it all turned out, as was Sid I’m happy to say. While I’ve done some CD covers in the past working on the whole package design and having the space of a gatefold sleeve to work with on the record was great. You can read a bit more about this project over on my work website.

Take a listen to a sample from the album below and if you’d like to hire me to do something like this, please do get in touch.

  • Car Art

    Drawing cars for cash.

MGB Car Illustration by Chris Hathway for Webazoot Industries

I have been drawing some digital car illustrations and graphics for Webazoot since buying an iPad to use for work during the pandemic. I had tried drawing on tablets in the past but, maybe because I could only afford the most basic of them, they never really worked for me. Straight away I found drawing on the iPad really easy, fun to use and it also let me spend time drawing when I wasn’t at my desk.

Originally it started when I was hand drawing some designs for flags friends, involving their cars, I switched designing those over to the iPad, then started drawing some other cars and eventually put them up online for sale.

A couple of my recent favorites are below.

You can buy these car artworks and many, many more I have drawn on a wide variety of products, everything from mugs to T-shirts to socks and shower curtains*.

*I am yet to sell a shower curtain sadly.

  • The Sound cover artwork

Recent cover design and illustration for a brand new single from Sid Griffin.

Erm, Happy New Year? Okay, it has been very quiet on here of late, I know. And this website is also long overdue a revamp.

But to keep things ticking over here is a recent cover design and illustration for the brand new solo single from Sid Griffin (of The Long Ryders fame) which I was super happy to be asked to create.

Really pleased with how it turned out.

If you want to hear the track you can find it in all the usual places including Spotify or check out the video for the single below which I also had a hand in helping create (via my work over at Hathway Creative).

Hopefully I will have more time to post and more news of this nature soon…

  • New Website

Three year old ‘new’ website launch…

    Hathway Creative Logo

While I have owned the domain for about five years now, and been working solely under that banner for over three, it took me until last month to finally launch a new, wholly work based, website for Hathway Creative.

I saw a local website design company employ a third party to build their site a while ago and admit I kind of scoffed at it at the time. Given the time its taken me to get to this stage, perhaps that might not have been a completely bad idea after all.

The combination of wanting to get things completely and absolutely right along with regular interruptions from more urgent (paid) work and also the fact I wanted to cover both the Illustration side of the work I do, and the Website Design side while also outlining some of the other creative services and solutions projects have called upon in a way that, hopefully, makes sense and is easy to navigate just took a little time to work out.

    Website Design Services

    Graphic Design Services

    Comic Strip Illustration

    Poster and Website Banner Design

    Comic Book/Graphic Novel Artwork

It is a relatively simple and straightforward website still, with several featured projects on the home page and pages detailing the illustration and web work I do – Do please take a look at the all new Hathway Creative website and if you’d like to hire me for something, please do get in touch.

  • Welcome.

Hello and welcome to my website.*

It struck me looking at this website recently that sometimes the latest post or news item (which would normally sit about here) doesn’t always best explain this website.

So here are a few pieces of my illustration and artwork to get things started (You can click on them for more information about the image/project they are related to).

And if you would like to view more you can on the artwork page. If you like what you see there then you can contact me here with regards to one off commissions or projects.

*This was an old post that used to be ‘stuck’ as the first post on the website. I’ve tried to update the site so this isn’t needed anymore. I’m not sure if I managed this or not tbh.
